Thicker Than Thieves

The good 'ole adage, "thicker than thieves", is in reference to two or more friends, comrades, or allies who have formed a close and trustworthy relationship. At Bespoke, we like to think that this saying represents the rapport and trust we build with our clients. Visit after visit, you sit in our chair and trust in our experience, knowledge, and artistic eye to deliver the most complimentary cut and style possible. To become thicker than thieves though, you must let your hair down entirely while we drop our "guards" ;) Two way communication is key in creating the best experience possible, especially when it comes to talking about thinning hair and hair loss prevention- a touchy subject for some.

Thinning is so common that 80% of men see a significant sign of hair loss by age 30. Yes, genetics does play a part; Contrary to many believing the old wives tales of following in your mother's father's hair pattern, this proves to be untrue. Any men in your family could have passed down the unfortunate gene of male pattern baldness; However, don't go scolding your family members just yet. Other factors include hormonal imbalance, medication, stress, illness, and nutrition deficiency.

To best educate you without getting too scientific and nerdy is to visit the root of the problem, quite literally. The root of each hair strand lives in the scalp, and for healthy hair growth one must create a healthy scalp environment to sow that hair. Men's bodies produce a by-product of testosterone called DHT (dihydrotestosterone). It secretes through the hair follicles, coating the scalp. This secretion eventually suffocates each follicle, first thinning each hair strand and eventually killing the bulbs entirely. To prevent this from happening, we recommend starting a hair care regimen that provides cleansing, conditioning, and treating these symptoms. Paul Mitchell's Scalp Care system is a good choice, as well as Nioxin, both of which provide a shampoo to rid the scalp of DHT build up, a conditioner to reintroduce moisture, and a topical treatment to stimulate hair production.

Besides introducing this system to your daily routine, you can be mindful in a few other ways to prevent thinning.

  • Avoid wearing hats to dodge added friction and not allowing your scalp to breathe.
  • Talk to your doctor about getting a propecia prescription.
  • Be kind to your hair by shampooing and conditioning every 2-3 days.
  • Avoid products that pull on the hair and create further damage.
  • Blot your hair dry as opposed to rubbing while towel drying. (believe it or not, paper towels are best for this)
  • Ask your stylist about our in house Paul Mitchell Hair and Scalp Treatment.
  • Consult with your stylist on what haircut, style and product will best compliment you.

We hope this was an insightful intro to preventive measures on hair loss. We look forward to servicing you and not only becoming "thicker than thieves" but thickening those locks of yours too! Cheers!
